Ms. Fatin was denied asylum: 12 F.3d 1233. She said she was a feminist, who believed in equal rights for women. She said veils and head scarves were stupid and insulting.
-she was NOT active here in USA, she did NOT protest; she did nothing to openly oppose her government.
-The law in Iran said, "if woman does not wear veil, one year in prison." Ms. Fatin did not say, "I shall refuse to wear the veil. I will go to prison for one year, I do not care." She did NOT say that.
Paragraph #3: Ms. Fatin might have said, "I hate veils and head scarves. To wear one means I am a second-class citizen. It would be very painful for me to wear one. It would make me almost physically ill to wear one; perhaps I would wear one, but it would make me sick. It would be very painful."
Ms. Fatin could have said the words in Paragraph #3; but she did not.
What will you say, when you go to court?
